Electric scooters are growing in popularity as a means of transportation in urban areas, and scooter-related injuries have increased correspondingly. In this report from a single large hospital in Tel Aviv, Israel, an orthopedic group describes fractures related to electric scooter accidents between 2017 and early 2020.
Among 3331 patients who presented to the emergency department with electric scooter-related injuries, 563 patients had 716 fractures; 69% of fractures involved upper extremities, and 29% involved lower extremities. Fractures of the radius accounted for nearly half of upper-extremity fractures, with the remainder distributed among ulna, humerus, clavicle, carpal bones, and hand bones.
