As teens have begun receiving mRNA vaccines against COVID-19, reports of myopericarditis have emerged. These authors report a single-center review of 13 patients (median age, 15 years; 12 male) who, during a 3-month period, developed myopericarditis following the second dose of the Pfizer mRNA vaccine. Findings included the following:
Ten teens were non-Hispanic white, two were Asian, and one was American Indian/Alaska Native.
Symptoms developed a median of 3 days after second vaccination.
Sudden onset of severe and persistent chest pain occurred in all.
Other frequent symptoms were shortness of breath, fever, and myalgia.
