Risk for herpes zoster (shingles) rises with age and immunocompromised status due to disease or therapy. Live attenuated zoster vaccine (ZVL) is recommended to prevent shingles in persons aged ≥60 but is contraindicated in those who are immunocompromised. Investigators evaluated the safety and immunogenicity of ZVL in patients aged ≥50 receiving maintenance tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) therapy. In all, 617 subjects (mean age, 63; 65% female; 92% non-Hispanic white) were randomized 1:1 to receive vaccine or placebo and followed for 1 year for safety and immunogenicity.
