After minor stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA), secondary prevention efforts typically focus on preventing recurrent cerebrovascular events. However, the risk for coronary events is also elevated. Whether blood biomarkers in conjunction with risk stratification scores can help identify patients who would benefit from more extensive cardiac workups and targeted interventions is unclear. In an ancillary study of participants in the partially industry-funded INSPiRE-TMS trial, investigators categorized 889 patients with minor stroke or TIA by high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) level and by ABCD2 (age, blood pressure, clinical features, duration, diabetes) score.
