Individual trials using strict enrollment criteria have shown that select patients with acute ischemic stroke can benefit from endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) when treated in the 6- to 24-hour time window. These trials were relatively small, and uncertainty exists about important patient subgroups. These authors conducted a manufacturer-funded meta-analysis of trials that enrolled patients for EVT beyond 6 hours after stroke onset. The primary outcome was functional independence at 90 days, judged by a modified Rankin Scale score of 0 to 2. Other endpoints of interest included mortality and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH).
