Very little hard data on patient-specific triggers of atrial fibrillation (AF) exist, pertinent as that information is. In a randomized, controlled trial with an n-of-1 arm (NCT03323099), researchers analyzed only the AF triggers that individual participants reported to be important to them: alcohol use, caffeine use, sleep deprivation, and exercise (the 4 most common), as well as others such as lying on one's left side, dehydration, eating large meals, and consuming hot or cold drinks.
