For patients taking immunosuppressive or immunomodulatory drugs — including multiple sclerosis (MS) disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) — the effect on vaccine response is unclear. Now, two groups of investigators have examined the effect of DMTs on immune response to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in people with MS.
In the first study, from Italy, Tortorella and colleagues compared the immune response to full vaccination of 78 healthcare workers (HCWs) with that of 108 MS patients, according to DMT received. Among the MS patients, 35 received fingolimod, 28 received IFN ß, 25 received ocrelizumab, and 20 received cladribine.
