Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is associated with subjective cognitive complaints, objective cognitive impairment, and absence of functional impairment — unlike dementia, with which functional impairment is present. To determine predictors and progression of MCI, investigators conducted a population-based cohort study involving 2903 participants from the Washington Heights–Inwood Columbia Aging Project (mean age, about 75 years; 70% female; 30% Black; 40% Hispanic) who were cognitively normal at baseline.
