Because immunocompromised patients have diminished responses to COVID-19 vaccines, a three-dose primary series is recommended in this population. Given that heterologous vaccination has been associated with improved immune responses in immunocompetent individuals, investigators compared a third dose of Ad26COVS1 (Johnson & Johnson) to a third dose of mRNA vaccine among kidney transplant recipients who had no detectable serologic responses to two doses of mRNA vaccine.
