Some patients are left with significant disability from large vessel occlusion stroke, even after a proximal occlusion is successfully recanalized. Although recent studies have examined whether bypassing intravenous thrombolysis before stroke thrombectomy makes sense or not, there has also been interest in whether adjunctive intra-arterial thrombolysis after successful stroke thrombectomy might more directly address remaining distal occlusions or microthrombi and improve outcomes.
