Given that many important questions about the natural history of SARS-CoV-2 infection remain unanswered, researchers utilized a university-based COVID-19 screening program (fall 2020 and spring 2021) in a detailed analysis of early SARS-CoV-2 infections. Participants who were within 24 hours of a positive SARS-CoV-2 PCR result or within 5 days of exposure to a PCR-positive individual underwent daily nasal and saliva sample analyses for 14 days. Among 60 subjects, none had had prior COVID-19 or vaccination against SARS-CoV-2, and all infections were mild or asymptomatic.
