The incidence of infective endocarditis is rising among people who inject drugs, and recurrence in this group is substantial (estimated to be up to 25%). One risk factor, previously identified by these authors, is misuse of peripherally inserted central venous catheters. Now, a retrospective cohort analysis has been performed in hospitalized adult patients who injected drugs and had diagnoses of infective endocarditis from 2007 to 2018 at three hospitals in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
