Those with Alzheimer disease (AD) may be asymptomatic years prior to cognitive decline. Researchers in this study analyzed whether amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers in cognitively normal, community dwelling adults predicted cognitive outcomes and AD neuropathologic findings. AD biomarker status was determined by pre-defined cut-offs for PET imaging and CSF p-tau181/amyloid-β42 levels within 1 year of baseline clinical assessment. Cognitive outcomes were based on validated clinical assessments of clinical and functional abilities, and AD pathological changes were determined by established criteria.
