Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a serious type of stroke, with relatively high short-term mortality and long-term morbidity. Although much attention has been devoted to improving short-term (30–90 day) outcomes, less is known regarding factors that influence longer-term (1-year) functional status. These authors conducted a post hoc analysis of two randomized trials (CLEAR III and MISTIE III) that were designed to investigate thrombolysis for intraventricular hemorrhage and ICH (CLEAR III) or stereotactic surgery with thrombolysis for ICH (MISTIE III).
