Mosquitoes resistant to pyrethroids may be undermining the gains achieved with long-lasting insecticidal bed nets (LLINs), a cornerstone of malaria control strategies in Africa. Investigators in Benin conducted a cluster-randomized trial in an area with high pyrethroid resistance to evaluate the efficacy of LLINs treated with two insecticides (pyriproxyfen-pyrethroid or chlorfenapyr-pyrethroid) compared with pyrethroid-treated LLINs. One LLIN was distributed for every 2 household members; thus, >115,000 bed nets were distributed to 54,030 households. Bed net usage varied from 77% at 9 months after distribution to 61% at 24 months.
