The prevalence of gestational diabetes (GD) is increasing and now affects as many as 10% of pregnancies. GD is a substantial risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes, and guidelines recommend diabetes screening between 4 and 12 weeks' postpartum. To examine the extent to which women with GD actually receive postpartum screening in primary care, researchers performed this retrospective study with U.S. insurance claims for 280,000 postpartum women who had continuous data for at least 6 months before and 12 months after delivery.
