Stark disparities in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) exist in the U.S., with a higher rate among Black versus white adults. In the current national guidelines, 10-year estimated ASCVD risk is used for recommendations about statin initiation, and Black race is included as a variable resulting in higher risk estimation and likelihood of recommendation for statin therapy.
