Pitolisant, a selective antagonist and inverse agonist of the histamine H3 receptor, is approved for narcolepsy with and without cataplexy in adults. In this international, industry-sponsored, phase 3, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial, researchers studied the safety and efficacy of pitolisant in children 6 to 17 years of age who had narcolepsy with or without cataplexy, diagnosed using standard criteria. The 110 enrolled participants (mean age, 13 years; 45% female, 82% with cataplexy) included 72 in the pitolisant group and 38 in the placebo group; 107 completed the double-blind period.
