Coincident with increased direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising, patients' interest in “low testosterone” and erectile dysfunction (ED) treatment has surged. Current guidelines recommend testosterone replacement therapy for men with total testosterone level <300 ng/dL and signs or symptoms of hypogonadism. Regenerative treatments for ED, such as platelet-rich plasma and penile shockwave therapy, are not recommended for use outside of clinical trials. Yet a growing number of DTC-advertised “men's health” clinics offer these services at substantial cost with questionable medical oversight.
