The development of amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) has enabled in-vivo assessment of amyloid deposition, a hallmark of Alzheimer disease (AD). To determine if amyloid PET imaging early in the diagnostic workup can improve confidence in the etiological diagnosis of memory clinic patients and influence treatment plans, European investigators conducted an industry-funded, multicenter, prospective, randomized trial involving 794 participants (median age, 71 years; 97% white; 30% with subjective cognitive decline; 40% with mild cognitive impairment; 30% with dementia).
