Multiple diagnostic tests are used clinically in patients whose symptoms suggest stable coronary artery disease (CAD). In this meta-analysis of 11 randomized, controlled trials, authors compared the effectiveness of various strategies on clinical endpoints such as cardiovascular (CV)-related death, myocardial infarction (MI), and invasive coronary angiography and revascularizations secondary to the index test (iRevasc).

Coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA) was associated with fewer angiograms (relative risk, 0.23) and index revascularizations (RR, 0.71), but similar rates of MI and CV-related death, than was direct referral for angiography.
