On June 1, 2023 the CDC reported, through its Health Alert Network (HAN), a multistate outbreak of Fusarium solani fungal meningitis that emerged in January 2023. The initial 212 cases in 25 states were related by having had cosmetic procedures under epidural anesthesia at one of two clinics (River Side Surgical Center or Clinica K-3) in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Potentially exposed persons received epidural anesthesia at either clinic from January 1 to May 13, 2023, after which time the clinics were closed. An update, published by HAN and the Emergency Preparedness and Response arms of the CDC on June 14, 2023, now provides additional information and recommendations.
