To estimate the degree to which individuals with coronary artery disease (CAD) in the U.S. are attaining recommended lowering of cholesterol levels, researchers examined data from a nationally representative survey sample of 472 nonpregnant individuals aged ≥20 years who self-reported previous coronary heart disease, angina, or heart attack (mean age, 65; 41% women; 10% Black, 3% Mexican American, 5% other Hispanic, 3% Asian, 71% white, and 7% other). Over two thirds were statin users, and 6% were receiving ezetimibe.
