Cognitive deficits after COVID-19, although common, have not been predictable. To search for prognostic biomarkers, researchers in the U.K. studied 1837 participants in the prospective, longitudinal Post-hospitalization COVID-19 (PHOS-COVID) cohort study conducted from January 2020 to November 2021. Six biomarkers (C-reactive protein [CRP], D-dimer, fibrinogen, lymphocyte, neutrophil, and platelet counts) were measured in blood samples obtained during hospitalization, and levels were evaluated relative to results of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and the cognitive portion of Patient Symptom Questionnaire (C-PSQ) obtained 6 months after hospitalization.
