Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia causes increased mortality and longer hospital stays attributed to the antistaphylococcal shortcomings of vancomycin; thus, beta-lactams with MRSA activity are anticipated to improve outcomes. Ceftobiprole — a cephalosporin with activity against MRSA — is available in several European countries and Canada.
