Mitral Annular Disjunction and Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair

Transcatheter repair is feasible, can reduce the length of disjunction, and may improve prognosis.

Mitral annular disjunction (MAD), an anatomic separation between the atrial wall where the posterior leaflet is inserted and the true atrial-ventricular annulus, has been associated with ventricular arrhythmias in patients with mitral valve prolapse (MVP). In this retrospective single-center analysis, investigators compared the outcomes of transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) in 62 patients (23%) with MAD and 209 patients without MAD.

Baseline characteristics in patients undergoing TEER with MAD (median age, 82 years; 39% women) were similar to those in patients without MAD, although the former had greater prolapse height.
