The BNT162b2 COVID-19 vaccine was authorized for use in 12- to 15-year-olds in May 2021 and in 5- to 11-year-olds in October 2021. To expand the vaccine's real-world performance data, investigators conducted a comparative observational study at eight U.S. academic centers: They evaluated vaccine effectiveness (VE) of ≥1 dose of BNT162b2 against SARS-CoV-2 infections, mild disease, moderate-to-severe disease, and ICU admissions in children and adolescents with no known history of COVID-19. During the Delta period, 77,392 adolescents were enrolled; during the Omicron period, 111,539 children and 56,080 adolescents were enrolled.
