To investigate whether triptans are definitely contraindicated in patients with cardiovascular risk factors, researchers conducted a nationwide study comprising all triptan-prescribed patients in Denmark from January 1995 to August 2022. They compared triptan use in patients with ischemic events to use in patients without such events within 14 days after triptan use. Using a case-crossover design, they compared first-ever triptan use within 14 days before an ischemic event to first-ever triptan use in four reference periods without ischemic events in the same patients, to eliminate confounders.
