Oral emtricitabine and tenofovir (F/TDF) was FDA-approved for HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among adults in 2012; however, efficacy in cisgender women has been questioned due to negative results in three randomized trials. The association between PrEP adherence and HIV prevention is well known among men who have sex with men (MSM), but data are lacking for cisgender women. In an analysis of data pooled from eleven prospective studies of F/TDF in cisgender women conducted between 2012 and 2020, investigators studied the association between adherence trajectories and HIV incidence.
