Since the last update of the IAS–USA treatment guidelines in December 2022, experience with long-acting injectable cabotegravir/rilpivirine (LA CAB/RPV) for treating patients without virologic suppression has grown. In addition to several published case series, modeling studies have shown that the benefit of LA CAB/RPV is greatest in those with advanced HIV who have difficulty adhering to oral therapy.
