Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is highly prevalent in obesity. Metabolic interventions with the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist semaglutide have been recently tested in clinical trials. This pooled analysis combined individual-level data from two industry-funded trials with harmonized design in which 2.4 mg semaglutide or placebo was administered subcutaneously once weekly for 52 weeks in patients without diabetes (NEJM JW Cardiol Aug 25 2023 and N Engl J Med 2023; 389:1069) and with diabetes (NEJM JW Cardiol Apr 6 2024 and N Engl J Med 2024; 390:1394).
