Symptoms such as angina, heart failure, or syncope generally are indications for valve replacement in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS), but do those symptoms always resolve after valve replacement? In this retrospective study from Spain, investigators studied 451 consecutive patients with symptomatic severe AS (but no other clinically important valve or coronary disease) who survived valve replacement; 58% underwent surgery, and 42% underwent transcatheter replacement. Almost 30% of patients had been hospitalized for heart failure (HF) prior to valve replacement. Of the remaining patients, more than 90% had dyspnea on effort, 40% had angina, and 19% had syncope.
