Previous studies have demonstrated that the earlier administration of a thrombolytic agent in patients with acute ischemic stroke increases the chance of reperfusion. In patients with large-vessel occlusion, limited data are available comparing the rate of reperfusion with alteplase (t-PA) to the rate with tenecteplase (TNK). These authors combined the results of four data sources (three clinical trials and one stroke registry) and assessed angiographic reperfusion following thrombolytic administration. Reperfusion was defined as >50% reperfusion or absence of retrievable thrombus at the time of initial angiography or repeat computed tomographic angiography.
