In 2008, routine free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination was introduced in England for girls aged 12–13, including catch-up vaccination until age 19. Previous studies demonstrated greatly reduced cervical cancer incidence in HPV-vaccinated women but also showed that both acceptance and uptake of the HPV vaccine was lower among women from socioeconomically deprived areas. Now, British researchers have assessed follow-up data from the National Health Service population-based cancer registry, stratified according to HPV vaccination status and socioeconomic deprivation.
Between January 2006 and June 2020, cervical cancer and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 (CIN3) were diagnosed in 29,968 and 335,228 women in England, respectively.…
