While the most recent U.S. guidelines recommend a shortened duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) of 1 to 3 months following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI; Circulation 2022; 145:e18), there is less evidence for shortened DAPT when PCI is performed for acute coronary syndromes (ACS; Eur Heart J 2023; 44:3720).
Researchers performed a systematic review and individual participant–level meta-analysis of randomized trials to compare the efficacy and safety of short-term DAPT (for 2 weeks to 3 months) followed by ticagrelor 90 mg twice daily versus 12-month DAPT following PCI with coronary stent placement. Trials including participants requiring long-term oral anticoagulation were excluded.
