In reports on U.S. mortality, the Asian racial category has traditionally included several subgroups, including Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI). To describe cardiovascular (CVD) mortality among NHPI adults independent of other Asian categories, investigators calculated race-stratified, age-standardized mortality based on ICD-10 code data from the National Vital Statistics System. People with “mixed” NHPI backgrounds were included.
Among NHPI adults aged 35 years and older, 10,870 CVD deaths were recorded from 2018 to 2022 (heart disease, 73%; cerebrovascular disease, 19%).
