Current guidelines recommend a target mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) of 65 mm Hg for adult patients with septic shock (Crit Care Med 2021; 49:e1063), but the tension remains between maintaining adequate perfusion with vasopressors and their potential risks. To address this uncertainty, researchers performed a patient-level meta-analysis of 3352 patients (mean age, 72; 76% with sepsis) from three international, randomized trials to investigate whether a lower MAP target, compared with a higher MAP target, lowered 90-day all-cause mortality among critically ill patients with vasodilatory shock.
