Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1)–receptor agonist, and tirzepatide, a GLP-1 agonist and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide–receptor agonist, have been approved by the U.S. FDA for weight loss in adults with obesity or overweight and at least one weight-related comorbidity.
