In 2024, breathtaking advances occurred in the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. We now have multiple options for preventing HIV through preexposure prophylaxis, including daily and on-demand oral medications and injectable drugs. In one of the major breakthroughs of year, a twice-yearly injection of lenacapavir was highly efficacious in preventing HIV. FDA approval of this game-changing intervention is expected this year — and expedited global roll-out is critical.
