The Southern Community Cohort Study (SCCS) Polypill Trial showed that a cardiovascular polypill (a single, fixed-dose pill containing atorvastatin 10 mg, amlodipine 2.5 mg, losartan 25 mg, and hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg) could control blood pressure and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in a majority Black and low-income population without cardiovascular disease (CVD). To investigate the cost-effectiveness of the polypill, researchers performed simulations using data from published literature, the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), pooled cohort studies, and the SCCS Polypill Trial itself.
