To prioritize HIV prevention efforts, the CDC recently updated their transmission model using the National HIV Surveillance System for 2019 (data on 35,100 new infections and status along the HIV continuum of care). The model assumes that the HIV transmission rate for persons living with HIV (PWH) with suppressed HIV levels is zero. Baxter et al. analyzed these U.S. data by ethnic group, gender, transmission category, and age to determine the HIV transmission rate for each subset of PWH.
