Despite the remarkable virologic success of current antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens, concerns remain about the metabolic effects of each component drug. In the SOLAR trial, investigators reported comparable virologic efficacy when persons living with HIV (PLWH) who achieved suppression on bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide (BIC/FTC/TAF) were switched to long-acting cabotegravir and rilpirivine (LA-CAB/RPV) dosed every 2 months. Now, metabolic and morphologic changes after 12 months on LA-CAB/RPV or BIC/FTC/TAF were compared among the participants (none of whom were taking lipid-modifying drugs).
