The European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) Global meeting took place in Vienna over the past few days. In the latest HIV and ID Observations, Dr. Paul Sax — who attended the meeting virtually — reflects on how studies presented at ESCMID first clued him in to the power of social media for disseminating research. He also looks back on the now defunct Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy — and its swag of sometimes comically useless items.
