Mixed urinary incontinence (i.e., combined urge and stress incontinence) typically is managed with behavioral strategies, pelvic floor therapy, and medications. However, some women do not respond adequately to these measures. In this randomized U.S. trial, 137 such women received either surgical mesh midurethral sling procedures or intradetrusal 100-U onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) injections. Botox recipients could receive repeat injections 3 to 6 months after their initial injections; crossover to the other treatment was permitted after 6 months.
