Although the CDC recommends doxycycline postexposure prophylaxis (doxyPEP) for preventing bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender persons (TGP), the possible consequences regarding antimicrobial resistance are cause for concern. To assess doxyPEP's effects on tetracycline resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), Staphylococcus aureus, and Group A Streptococcus (GAS), investigators analyzed data routinely collected by sexual health clinics from MSM and TGP before and after rollout of this intervention in the Seattle area.
