Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1)–receptor agonists have been associated with worsening diabetic retinopathy in randomized trials (Diabetes Care 2025; 48:S252). Recently, several observational studies have linked semaglutide to higher risk for nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NEJM JW Gen Med Apr 1 2025 and JAMA Ophthalmol 2025; 143:267). Now, Canadian researchers have examined whether use of GLP-1 agonists is associated with another eye disorder, neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).
