Although clinicians occasionally prescribe salvage therapy containing two PIs plus low-dose ritonavir, this approach is not well supported in the literature. To compare its virologic efficacy with that of salvage regimens containing a single boosted PI, investigators conducted a retrospective analysis among patients enrolled in a northern California health maintenance organization.
The study involved PI-experienced patients who switched to salvage regimens containing one or two full-dose PIs, plus low-dose ritonavir, between April 1998 and November 2005.
