The optimal approach to preventing hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in patients with HIV is still unknown. Providing an effective initial vaccine series should be the primary goal, but until the best dose and schedule are determined, many patients (40% to 75%) will require repeat vaccination.
In this cohort study, investigators in the Netherlands offered revaccination to 144 HIV-infected patients who initially received three doses of 10-mcg HBvaxPRO but did not develop antibodies to hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs).
