According to the latest HIV treatment guidelines from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, tenofovir/FTC plus efavirenz is one of the preferred antiretroviral regimens for treatment-naive patients. However, concerns have been raised recently about the emergence of the K65R mutation and subsequent tenofovir resistance in patients who receive this regimen.
In this retrospective analysis from the Swiss HIV Cohort Study, investigators reviewed data from all patients who had genotypic resistance tests performed while they were receiving tenofovir.
