Research has demonstrated that the course of HIV infection can be influenced by psychological factors that affect physiological functioning and behavioral response to illness. In a recent randomized, controlled trial in Switzerland, investigators evaluated the effect of cognitive-behavioral stress management (CBSM) on HIV disease progression, treatment adherence, psychological distress, and quality of life. Interventions consisted of either standard care alone or standard care plus 12 weeks of group CBSM.
